Powerful Angel Tattoos

Angel tattoos have become a highly popular way to express yourself through tattooing, and it is no longer simply a figure with a set of wings being the favored design, rather, it's the action of the angel that predominates the angel design now.

We could even say the inaction of the angel tattoo has something to say, as many people apply human characteristics to the angel motif and attempt to say something in that way.

While it's not accurate as to angels, it's an interesting way to just put something interesting and cool in your skin.

Because there are so many types of angel and angel theme tattoos, I'm not going to attempt to explore them all here, but in this article we'll look at mostly the powerful look of tattooed angels, and revisit some of the other types another time.

Before we get into it too much, it's interesting to note that a number of people have taken to not just getting a tattoo of an angel, but have added angel wings on their back, evidently seemingly implying they're angels, or at least potentially (we've watched too much "Touched by an Angel").

Either way, they can look nice as far as art, but they haven't done much for me as far as really looking great as a tattoo. I'm not sure what it is, but no matter how well done they are stylistically or in design, they just don't seem to work for me. Maybe you like them though, and that's ok. 

Angel tattoos are just as popular with men as they are with women. It's one of several tattoo themes that work for both, and the vast diversity of ways to portray an angel is the reasoning behind that.

In Christian teaching, angels have had a couple of important roles to play, being sent with messages from God to His people, and also to serve and protect them in various circumstances.

So the idea of powerful, protective guardian angels has been part of Christian teaching for a long time, and that is expressed in many of the tattoos shown here, at least in the sense of being powerful and mighty warriors for God's people.

Among angel designs, there are several that stand out among all others. They are archangels, guardian angels, cherubs, and devils or fallen angels.

Each of these are portrayed in a unique way, and used to express a specific idea within the mind of the one being tattooed.

For example, when thinking of archangels, designers and those wanting to be tattooed normally picture an angel holding a large sword and looking extremely powerful and ready to do battle, or in the midst of battle. In most cases their wings are spread out in majestic width to dramatize their power and readiness.

While guardian angels can also look powerful, they are for some reason associated with protecting children, and many people who think of them in this way tattoo them on thinking of their own children or grandchildren. 

For fallen angels, they are displayed many times in feminine form, and can be seen as very beautiful but dark in nature. They are also portrayed as being in constant battle, and if resting, they have torn wings and bloody swords the majority of time.

The darker ink that is usually used in making fallen angel tattoos is liked by those who gravitate toward darker themes like Goth, bikers and Satanists.

Finally, cherubs are more of a fictional, playful character, and the idea of cupid comes in here, which really isn't taken too seriously as being based in reality in what they represent, but are a fun way to think of falling in love with someone. 

This is just one small look at angel tattoos and the types available, and it's really enjoyable to see the quality of design and detail associated with this powerful subject matter.

An increasing number of people who believe in these usually unseen visitors are choosing them as the subject matter for their tattoo. This seems to be because they can be shown in a wide range of emotions, and represent either good or evil.
